This is an illustration I created for Banfield Pet Hospitals to act as a training roadmap for new employees.  The illustration was created in Adobe Illustrator in a way that versions could be customized for each job title; adding or removing steps based on the actual training path for each job.  In the final documents, the training steps had the specific names of each step, rather than the generic “Step X-X” shown on this version.

This is a collection of illustrations I did over a month’s time, where the goal was to set aside one hour, two days per week, to create some type of illustration from conception to completion.  As one would expect, the ideas are mostly topical, spanning the NHL playoffs, spying scandals, Man of Steel, and cicada season, among others.  All were created with a drawing tablet in Adobe Photoshop. The holidays brought inspiration to begin a series of illustrations inspired by classic videogames. This will likely get added to over time, maybe working my way from classic arcade games to some of my current favorites. In the meantime, enjoy. (Click any image to open viewer)

An illustration created to continue a series of illustrations that were used as part of a leadership seminar.  The challenge was to create an entirely new illustration that fit with the artistic style of the previous two that had been done by a different artist.  I penciled and inked the illustration on paper and then scanned the black and white illustration into Photoshop to be colored.

This is a video produced by the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, that incorporated animation I created to help illustrate some of the key points.  I used stick figures and simple drawings to try to help inspire the viewer to feel more comfortable drawing to communicate their ideas.

The initial spark for this project was the desire to create a short animated film set entirely to music.  The reasons were both practical, in that I would not have to worry about editing in sound effects, voice-overs, etc., but also creative, in that I wanted to be free to let the music inspire the animation, rather than vice versa. The song, “Body of Water,” by Red Hot Chili Peppers instantly got me thinking about an epic journey.  Initially, the story was going to be more generic, with the typical journey of a knight battling his way to rescue a damsel in distress, but asRead More →

With so much of the action and transitions in the film being linked to the music, an animatic was an absolute necessity.  While the drawings are pretty rough, it pretty much mirrors the shots and timing of the final film.
